Rayanne Tamayo: Committed to Tuolumne County's Future

Updated: 2 days ago

Understanding the Community's Needs

To lead effectively, I know it’s essential to understand the people I serve. I have made it my mission to listen closely to the voices of Tuolumne County residents. Through town hall meetings, community forums, and one-on-one conversations, I gather insights on the challenges our community faces and use that feedback to guide my decisions and priorities.

Key Issues Identified

  1. Public Safety: I strongly support ensuring that the Sheriff’s Office has the funding and resources it needs to protect our communities. Deputies, fire services, and emergency responders are on the front lines every day, and they deserve strong support from county leadership. I will work closely with the Sheriff and our public safety partners to keep Tuolumne County safe and strengthen trust in our community.

  2. Maintaining Critical Infrastructure: That means taking care of our roads, managing our forests to reduce fire risk, and making sure our drainage systems are working properly. These aren’t political issues—they’re everyday needs that affect all of us. I will work to support practical solutions that keep our infrastructure safe, reliable, and well maintained.

  3. Economic Development: A strong local economy keeps families here and our community thriving. In recent years, too many businesses closed their doors—meaning fewer jobs and fewer opportunities for local families. I will focus on supporting our local entrepreneurs and attracting new businesses to create jobs, strengthen our economy, and build a future where people can live and work right here in Tuolumne County.

  4. Affordable Housing: Many residents are struggling to find housing they can afford including young people just starting out and seniors wanting to retire. I will advocate for policies that encourage responsible housing development, including improving the permit process so builders can move projects forward more efficiently. By supporting smart growth that strengthens our local tax base and expanding housing opportunities, we can help ensure that working families and future generations can continue to live and work in Tuolumne County.

  5. Protecting Our Quality of Life: Tuolumne County is a special place to live, and protecting our quality of life must remain a priority. Through my long career in behavioral health, I bring experience and compassion to addressing homelessness in ways that are both humane and practical. I also believe property owners should have fair and reasonable freedom to use their land, while preserving the outdoor spaces, trails, and natural areas that our community values and enjoys every day.

A Vision for Sustainable Growth

Sustainable Growth: I believe Tuolumne County’s future depends on responsible, balanced growth. Economic progress should never come at the expense of our environment or the character of our community. I am committed to supporting thoughtful development that respects our natural landscape, meets the needs of residents, and protects the rural lifestyle that makes our county such a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

Engaging the Community

Collaborative Leadership: I understand that effective leadership isn’t just about making decisions—it’s about listening, learning, and working together. I actively seek input from community members, neighbors, and local organizations, because the best solutions come from hearing diverse perspectives. By encouraging participation in local governance and fostering open, ongoing dialogue, I can make decisions that truly reflect the needs and priorities of our community. Together, we can build trust, strengthen our county, and create a Tuolumne County that works for everyone.

A Commitment to Transparency

I believe transparency is a cornerstone of good leadership. Residents have the right to know how decisions are made and how public funds are spent. I am committed to ensuring nothing gets swept under the rug—like grand jury reports or overpaying for unused properties —and that all information is shared openly. By keeping government accountable and residents informed, I will build trust and ensure our community’s voices are always heard.

Open Communication

  • Regular Updates: Once elected, I will provide regular updates to the community through social media, community gatherings, and public meetings. This ensures that residents are informed about ongoing projects and initiatives.

  • Strong Community Feedback Loops: Good leadership starts with listening. I’m committed to creating clear, consistent ways for residents to share concerns, ideas, and feedback with county leadership. That two-way communication helps ensure decisions reflect the needs of our community and keeps government transparent and accountable.

The Road Ahead

As I continue my journey as a leader in Tuolumne County, my commitment to this community remains unwavering. I know the challenges we face are significant, but by working together, listening to residents, and focusing on sustainable solutions, I am confident we can build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous future for our county.
